As we bid farewell to 2023 we eagerly look forward to what 2024 will bring. Now is a great opportunity to take a look around your personal and professional surroundings and make some excellent changes to build and enhance your nanny job.

  1. Take stock of your surroundings. All those new toys and books that arrived but nowhere to put them? Discuss with the parents a plan to “Keep, Donate or Trash” old items and create new play spaces, e-learning spaces, reading nooks and quiet space. Get the kids involved and make it a special, fun project.
  2. Communicate. Communicate. Communicate. Consider a daily diary for writing out your day, concerns, observations, events and more. is a great tool made by nannies for nannies for this exact purpose!
  3. Review time. When was the last time you had a review with your employers? What is working? What isn’t? Set up a time to sit down and discuss. can help address certain areas of concern or prepare for what’s coming up.
  4. Make self-care a priority for 2024. Take up a new hobby. Pick a day to unplug – literally. No phones, social media. Read a book, binge on Netflix. Reconnect with friends and family. Send cards with handwritten notes. Make a phone call vs texting or emailing to a loved one. Book a day at the spa or a weekend away with your besties, fly in and surprise a loved one. Make it a point to do something for yourself each month and make yourself a priority in 2024.
  5. Invest in your education. Whether you’ll be staying for a long while or looking for a new job this year, continuing education is vital to a nanny’s career. Consider an online course, subscribe to for current news and articles. How about a webinar hosted by Zero to Three or NAEYC? Or check out the , or ?

According to the :

The Cleveland Clinic has asked us to share this with all of our If you have 5-10 minutes please take the time to answer these questions.

As a member of INA you have been invited to take part in the Cleveland Clinic survey becausethe Cleveland Clinicis interested tolearn about your experiences and training with regards to food allergies. The survey consists of 46 questions, and should take between 5-10 minutes of your time. Because the data generated by this survey may be generalized and disseminated, it is considered human subjects research. Your participation is voluntary, and consent will be implied based on your participation.

The only risk to your participation is a small risk to the confidentiality of your data. Safeguards are in place to protect your data. The Cleveland Clinic isnot collecting any information which will identify you. The data will be stored in a password protected computer at the Cleveland Clinic. Results from this survey will be presented in the aggregate, as group data.
With this survey,The Cleveland Clinichope to: (1) identifynannies knowledge of food allergies, including general knowledge, recognition, and treatment of food allergies; (2) identify prevalence of food allergy in homes where children are under the care of nannies:and (3) identify gaps in knowledge and training requirements for food allergy at various nanny training institutions/conferences.

While taking this survey it is important to distinguish the difference between true food allergy vs. food intolerance. True food allergy includes life threatening reactions due to an immune response to proteins in foods. This can lead to the immediate onset of allergy symptoms including itching, hives, swelling, vomiting, coughing, wheezing, or low blood pressure causing lightheadedness. This is a syndrome called anaphylaxis. Food intolerance is not life threatening and often includes symptoms of stomach upset, bloating, gas, fatigue, hyperactivity (i.e. lactose intolerance). Gluten sensitivity or celiac disease is NOT a food allergy.Pleasebe reassured that all of your responses will remain confidential and anonymous.

Thissurvey should take no longer than 10 minutes to complete.

Feel free to contact Dr. Justin Greiwe at216-212-5879or atgreiwej@ccf.orgwith any questions or concerns.

This research has been approved by the Cleveland Clinic Institutional Review Board.
